The world lost one of its great people on Saturday May 13, 2016 with the sudden passing of Douglas Christopher Wilhelm. He was called away from us peacefully at his home in Temperance, Michigan. Doug was born on January 31, 1964 to John and Karen (Timiney) Wilhelm of Monroe, Michigan. He was a member of Monroe High School’s class of 1982. From 1983-1987 Doug honorably served the military in the United States Navy as an Operations Specialist, Second Class – aboard the U.S.S. Kittyhawk. Stationed in Coronado, CA, he served abroad in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean regions. Doug is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9656 – Lambertville, Michigan. Doug worked at Michigan Gas Utilities for 10 years, Diamler Chrysler as a proud member of the U.A.W. for 7 years. He also worked at Georgia Pacific for 10 years. An avid lover of life, Doug played many roles in his wonderful life. Baseball coach, avid Michigan sports fan, deer hunter, SkyWarn tornado chasing enthusiast, and lover of his treasured dogs. Inspired by legendary chef Jacques Pépin he was a culinary aficionado in his own right. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 22 years Janet Wilhelm, and his parents Karen and John Wilhelm, brothers Mark Wilhelm and Darrell (Shari) Wilhelm, children Joshua (Andrea) Zink and Rachel Zink, and nieces and nephews Amber Wilhelm, Zachary Wilhelm, Mariah Wilhelm, Aubrey Wilhelm, Tyler Wilhelm, and Hannah Wilhelm. He is preceded in death by grandparents James (Geraldine) Timiney, and Frank (Ruth) Wilhelm. Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, OH.
